The difficulty level of the Mardi Himal trek can be considered moderate. Here are some key points to understand its difficulty:
- Terrain: The trek involves hiking through various types of terrain, including forested paths, steep ascents, and some sections with rocky trails. While the paths are generally well-marked, there are occasional challenging sections, especially as you approach higher altitudes.
- Altitude: The highest point on the Mardi Himal trek is Mardi Himal Base Camp at approximately 4,500 meters (14,763 feet). Altitude can pose challenges such as shortness of breath, fatigue, and altitude sickness if not properly acclimatized. It’s important to ascend gradually and allow time for acclimatization.
- Duration: The typical duration of the Mardi Himal trek is around 5-7 days, depending on the specific itinerary and your pace. Daily hiking distances and altitude gains are manageable for most fit trekkers, but it’s essential to be prepared for multiple days of hiking.
- Weather: Weather conditions can vary, especially in the Himalayas. The best times to trek Mardi Himal are during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons when the weather is generally stable, and visibility is good. Winter treks are possible but colder, and monsoon season (June to August) brings heavy rainfall and reduced visibility.
- Fitness: While the Mardi Himal trek is not as strenuous as some longer and higher altitude treks in Nepal, it does require a reasonable level of fitness. Regular exercise and some preparation before the trek will help you enjoy the experience more comfortably.
- Guides and Porters: While it’s possible to trek independently on the Mardi Himal route, many trekkers choose to hire a guide or porter. Guides can provide valuable local knowledge, ensure safety, and assist with navigation, while porters can help lighten your load.
Overall, the Mardi Himal trek is a rewarding adventure suitable for trekkers with some previous hiking experience and a reasonable level of fitness. With proper preparation, including physical conditioning and understanding the altitude challenges, most trekkers find it to be an enjoyable and achievable trek in the stunning Annapurna region of Nepal.

Nepal is safe?
yes, we’re pleased to say that in terms of crime Nepal is a very safe country. There is little in the way of petty crime against tourists, even in big cities. That said it always pay to be cautious.
Lots of women tourists travel independently or in a small group all around Nepal with no problems. Most Nepalese (especially Nepalese women and families) will go out of their way to welcome and help female travellers and the experience of travelling around Nepal for a foreign woman alone can be very rewarding.
