The Harmukh Glacier lost an average of 11.04 meters of ice thickness between 2000 and 2012.The melting of glaciers and ice sheets is a major cause of sea level rise and a serious threat to water supplies. The melting glaciers can also lead to flash floods, avalanches, and glacial lake outburst floods

Short itinerary :
Day 1. Getting to base camp – Sonamarg. The transport will be arranged at 1 PM from Srinagar.
Day 2. Sonamarg (7,800 ft) to Nichnai (11,500 ft); 9 km, 6 hours.
Day 3. Nichnai (11,500 ft) to Vishnusar (12,000 ft); 12 km, 6 hours.
Day 4. Explore Vishnusar and Kishansar Lakes.
Day 5. Vishnusar (12,000 ft) to Gadsar (12,500 ft) via Gadsar Pass (13,800 ft); 10 km, 5 hours.
Day 6. Gadsar (12,500 ft) to Satsar (12,000 ft); 12 km, 6 hours.
Day 7. Satsar (12,000 ft) to Gangabal twin lakes (11,500 ft); 9 km, 6 hours.
Day 8. Gangabal (11,500 ft) to Naranag (7,450 ft); 11 km, 6 hours. Drive to Srinagar – you will reach by 6:00 PM

The comfortable way to reach from Kolkata/Bangalore/Mumbai to Srinagar is train/flight to New Delhi, then flight to Srinagar International Airport. The fastest way to reach from Kolkata/Bangalore/Mumbai to Srinagar is flight to Indira Gandhi International Airport, then flight to Srinagar International Airport.
Reach Jammu Tawi Railway from Kolkata or Bangalore and reach Srinagar by bus or share sumo from Jammu.It takes about 7-8 hours to travel from Jammu to Srinagar.
One thing you need to know very well, you should try to reach Srinagar one day before going to Sonmarg and take rest, before the trek you need to rest and adapt to the weather.
Book the hotel in Srinagar in advance, both before and after the trek, if you want to leave Srinagar after the trek, book your transport after 8 pm on day 8.
